Laysan Albatross (Phoebastria immutabilis) unge i sanden

The Laysan Albatross, a large North Pacific seabird, is one of four northern hemisphere albatross species. Worldwide there are as many as 22 species, most in the southern hemisphere. The Laysan albatross or gooney bird numbers in the millions but is not frrequently seen as it ranges far out to sea and confines its nesting areas to remote Hawaiian atolls. Laysan parents swallow marine plastics floating on the surface of the ocean as they feed, which they then regurgitate to their chicks leading to their deaths. (Fotograf: Steven Zeff)
